Rural Land

Other Rural Ventures

Photography hire, commercial leases, renewables and more.

What it involves

The long tail of rural income: location hire for photography and film, leasing sheds or yards to tradies, hosting telecommunications infrastructure, or leasing land for solar or wind generation.

How it can generate income

Highly variable — a telecom lease or renewable energy agreement can be transformative; location photography is occasional but effortless.

Does the agritourism framework apply?

Usually not — most of these ventures fall outside the NSW agritourism planning framework and need their own planning and legal assessment. Never assume rural zoning makes them automatically permissible.

Zoning & development approvals

Each use has its own definition and permissibility in your LEP. Renewable projects have dedicated state-level pathways. Always verify permissibility with council before signing any agreement.

Setup & operating costs

Variable; legal review of lease terms is the one cost you should never skip.

Environmental & practical considerations

Depends entirely on the venture — construction impacts, visual impact and land rehabilitation clauses matter most.
